The government shutdown is the #TrumpShutdown.

Our communities have to suffer the consequences of this shutdown because Republicans keep using our children’s health and safety as a hostage to push Trump’s racist agenda forward.

The #TrumpShutdown hits Black communities hard. Black people make-up a disproportionate amount of the federal workforce, and when the government is shutdown, it means those people are not getting paid. The impacts on Black women are even harsher with the share of Black women workers being twice as high in the federal workforce as it is among the civilian workforce. Even a short government shutdown could mean tens of thousands of Black people face difficulty putting food on the table, paying rent, or affording medical expenses.

Trump's bigotry towards Black people is also causing direct harm to the 9 million children who need the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the 800,000 Dreamers who need protection from deportation, and the communities hit by hurricanes last year that are still in desperate need of disaster relief.

Our communities deserve better than this. Turn up the heat on Republican Senators. Call them and demand they end the #TrumpShutdown.
