Demand newsroom directors ban Rudy Giuliani from their networks!

It’s time for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his racist comments to be permanently banned from major news networks.

Media outlets have been hosting former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to discuss race, police brutality, and the Dallas shooting. But Giuliani, who stoked "racial divisions" during his time in office, has used these outlets to push false and misleading crime statistics that reinforce racial stereotypes - mostly that Black people are violent.

In the last few days, Giuliani has gone on numerous network shows to call Black Lives Matter “inherently racist” and “anti-American” — and even made the outrageous claim that black children have “a 99% chance” of killing each other. He even went so far as to blame police violence on Black parents for failing to teach their children to “respect” the police.

Newsrooms can find someone far better to talk about race and policing than Rudy Giuliani. Demand they stop inviting Giuliani onto their networks!

To newsroom directors at MSNBC, FOX, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC:

Stop inviting former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on to your network to discuss race and policing. Giuliani has repeatedly shown that he is incapable of anything more than pushing false and misleading crime statistics that reinforce racial stereotypes - mostly that Black people are violent.

These comments are consistent with Giuliani's long history of pushing false crime statistics and racist narratives on air.

Allowing Giuliani to continue to push these misleading crime statistics and make openly racist comments that reinforce racial stereotypes is dangerous. For millions of viewers, Giuliani’s comments reinforce the false belief that Black folks are inherently violent and prone to criminality. A belief that - whether conscious or unconscious - results in police officers being all too quick to shoot Black folks like Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Reinforcing the stereotypes that harm Black folks each and every day is something your network should want to have nothing to do with.

    Sincerely,
