Color Of Change has reached out to the Hamden Schools Board of Education and Superintendent, but so far these administrators are refusing to take real action in the wake of this traumatizing event.

Having a 10-year old girl reenact life on a slave ship as a teaching exercise illuminates the reality that Hamden schools require deep and intentional work to equip teachers with the training and resources to adequately instruct Black students. 

We cannot allow a school district where 90% of the teachers are white and 60% of the students are Black to ignore the overt and subtle ways that racism impacts students and the surrounding community.
