Pull Berkeley Out of Police Militarization Program, Say No to Urban Shield
With the Trump administration ramping up its attacks against people of color, Black communities, indigenous people, and immigrants, it's more important than ever to put an end to militarized policing programs that devastate our communities. Next week the City of Berkeley will consider withdrawing from Urban Shield, the largest military SWAT training and weapons expo event in the world. It’s funded by the Urban Areas Security Initiative, a Department of Homeland Security grant program that also funnels money to 39 urban areas around the United States for local law enforcement to attain military weaponry and training – everything from armored vehicles, riot gear, and spying equipment.
Join us in urging Berkeley officials to stand with communities and end their participation and support for this program. Make the call below!
