Gov. Hogan: Stop militarizing police and secure #Justice4FreddieGray

**UPDATE 5/1/2015:** State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby has charged all 6 officers who killed Freddie Gray. It's a big deal. Local prosecutors almost never charge abusive and violent police. But there is a long road a head to convict the officers and overhaul Baltimore law enforcement. Click here to show your support for the charges and urge Mosby to drop all charges against protesters.

It has been more than two weeks since Baltimore police brutally killed Freddie Gray and no officer has been fired, arrested, or prosecuted. Local officials don't even have answers to the most basic questions: Why did police violently arrest Gray? Why was this healthy 25-year-old's voice box crushed, his spleen ruptured and 80% of his spine severed after 45 minutes with Baltimore law enforcement?

The lack of accountability for Gray's killing is unacceptable and the solution to Baltimore's policing crisis is not more militarized policing. Right now, we need widespread public pressure to ensure the necessary leadership and independent oversight to bring Gray's killer to justice and overhaul the Baltimore police department.

Urge Governor Hogan to appoint Maryland's Attorney General to assist the case.

    Dear Governor Hogan,

The tragic police killing of 25-year-old Freddie Gray has shocked the nation. As Governor, you have both the power and responsibility to ensure that Gray's killers are held accountable and to end the discriminatory police violence that led to his death.

I strongly urge you to order Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh to join the local investigation of Baltimore law enforcement responsible for Gray's brutal death. Local district attorneys work too closely with police on a day to day basis to hold them accountable — and they often don't.

I also strongly urge you to stop militarizing law enforcement. The National Guard, martial law and mandated curfew only serves to further escalate an already unacceptable level of confrontation and violence between police and citizens. Justice for Freddie Gray depend on your leadership to do more than ramp up law enforcement.

    Sincerely,

    [YOUR NAME]
