This is not justice #FreeMarissa #StopCorey
BREAKING: A Florida judge has sentenced Marissa Alexander to time served and two years on house arrest. We welcome Marissa home and celebrate her release from jail, while strongly condemning Florida State Attorney Angela Corey's disgraceful prosecution of Alxander in the first place and the fact that she remains under state control. This is not justice.
Marissa Alexander should have never been charged or incarcerated. But due to Prosecutor Angela Corey's discriminatory and inhumane prosecution of Black Floridians, and a justice system that systematically criminalizes Black women for their own abuse, Alexander faced up to 60 years for defending her self against her violent, abusive partner. But ColorOfChange members and people acrossed the nation raised their voices and said we will not allow Florida's criminal justice system to fail another Black person.
Share this image today to show your support for Marissa's freedom an end to the criminalization and over-charging of Black women and domestic violence survivors. And once you are done, join the more than 65,000 people calling on Gov. Scott to remove Prosecutor Corey from her post. As long as Corey remains in power, we can expect Florida's criminal justice system to continue to fail Black folks.
Will you demand Gov. Rick Scott suspend Florida State Prosecutor Angela Corey and take immediate steps to create a fair and balanced criminal justice system that respects the life, safety, and dignity of Black Floridians?
