GOP inspiring attacks against Black people
It's time to confront GOP presidential candidates and force them to take responsibility for using their platforms to inspire the fear, hate, and resentment of people of color that are causing white supremacists attacks.
The shooting of Black protestors in Minneapolis and the shooting of people at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado were both acts of terror carried out by white supremacists. Both attackers professed the same violent and racist messages shared by GOP candidates like Donald Trump.
Join us in drawing a line in the sand and demand that all GOP presidential candidates publicly disavow white supremacists and reject their support.
Tell the GOP Presidential Candidates: Stop inciting and supporting hate
Tell the GOP Presidential Candidates
I'm outraged by the hateful acts of white supremacy that have been occurring around the country, and I'm writing to demand that you take decisive action in tamping down the hateful atmosphere that exists in a major element of your party's grassroots support.
November's white supremacist attack on Black protesters is not an isolated incident. It is part of a deep pattern of violent rhetoric, racially charged imagery, and paranoid conspiracy theories that dehumanizes Black Americans and encourages violent action from white supremacists.
Not only have you refused to take any responsibility for controlling the dangerous atmosphere that has arisen -- many of you have encouraged and inflamed it with baseless fear-mongering that plays to the worst instincts in our society.
I'm calling on you to do two things:
- Unequivocally condemn white supremacy among your supporters, and make clear that those who embrace it have no place in your party.
- Make clear that you will not tolerate fear-mongering and coded appeals to racism from their fellow candidates.
It is your responsibility to take real leadership in addressing this problem, and no one should have to ask you to do so. For the good of our democracy, our country -- even your own political party -- you must act.
Sincerely,
[your name]
