    FCC: It's your job to protect net neutrality

    The FCC is on the verge of making a decision that would destroy the Internet as we know it, by giving corporations unprecedented control over what we say and do online.

    The big Internet service providers — phone and cable companies like Verizon and Time Warner Cable — want to kill net neutrality, the principle that keeps the Internet diverse and open, and gives Black people and businesses an equal chance online.

    The FCC may let them do it, unless enough of us speak out and demand they regulate Internet service as a public utility (the only true way to protect net neutrality). Join us.

    This is the comment we'll submit to the FCC on your behalf, demanding they protect net neutrality. The FCC will pay more attention to unique comments, so please take a moment to add your own personal comment using the box provided.

    Dear FCC commissioners,

    Net neutrality has made the Internet a level playing field for all voices, allowing Black bloggers, activists, and entrepreneurs to flourish online despite being blocked out of ownership and participation in traditional media. Black communities benefit greatly from a free and open Internet, and it is imperative that it stays that way.

    Reclassifying Internet service as a public utility under Title II of the Communications Act is the only way to truly protect net neutrality. Despite the claims of some civil rights groups and Black members of Congress, there is no conflict between expanding Internet access and protecting net neutrality in this way.

    I urge the FCC to prevent a corporate takeover of the Internet by instituting strong net neutrality protections under Title II of the Communications Act.
