ALEC corporate funders: Stop sanctioning profit-driven gun violence

For years, the right wing has been at the service of the NRA, pushing for increased gun access laws across the country — and now some of America's biggest companies are helping them do it. These companies have helped pass expansive gun access legislation by funding a right wing policy group called the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

ALEC and the NRA's gun access laws aren't about liberty or safety — they are about selling as many guns as possible no matter who gets hurt. Major companies that rely on business from Black folks shouldn't be putting guns into our communities. Please join us in demanding that these companies stop funding ALEC.

Here's the letter we'll send to the leadership of corporations that support ALEC, on your behalf. You can add a personal comment using the box to the right.

Dear President/CEO and Board,

I want to alert you to the fact that the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) — which your company funds — is pushing gun access laws across the country. As a major ALEC bankroller and co-chair of its Public Safety and Elections Task Force, the NRA has directly authored dozens of “model” gun access bills and resolutions that fly in the face of commonsense efforts to reduce gun violence.

Although proponents of expansive gun access argue their goal is community safety, the evidence is clear that more guns mean more homicide. ALEC and the NRA are intent on doing whatever possible to sell more guns. These laws are not about safety, they are about exploiting fears and tragedy to rake in profits for gun manufacturers and sellers.

I presume your company does not want to support dangerous gun access laws, nor have your products or services associated with gun violence and tragedies. I urge you to immediately stop funding ALEC and issue a public statement making it clear that your company does not support gun access laws.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
