Tell Anita Alvarez: Overturn wrongful convictions

We recently delivered over 66,000 petition signatures calling on Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez to agree to overturn the convictions of ten men falsely accused as teenagers and forced to confess to crimes they didn't commit. Still, despite the overwhelming support for these innocent men, Anita Alvarez has remained silent.

We need to step up the pressure. Can you make a quick call to Alvarez's office and demand that she vacate the convictions of these innocent men?

State's Attorney Anita Alvarez

Introduce yourself and explain the issue:

Hi, my name is Francis, and I'm calling about Anita Alvarez's decision to block justice for the innocent men from Dixmoor and Englewood who were forced to confess as teenagers to crimes they didn't commit. It appears she is ignoring the solid DNA evidence that proves their innocence. I'm asking that she immediately overturn these wrongful convictions and acknowledge that forced confessions have no place in law enforcement. Can we count on her to do what's right?

A couple of tips to keep in mind:

  • Be polite and calm. While we might be angry, we need to send a consistent message that can't be twisted to discredit us.
  • Stick to the message provided, but feel free to express it in your own words.
  • Read the script once or twice before calling, and even practice saying it aloud if you like.
