Tell Democrats: Don't balance the budget on the backs of the poor and middle-class

Republicans are refusing to vote for a package that would keep the nation from defaulting on its debts unless they can also pass massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid while allowing millionaires and billionaires to keep paying some of the lowest tax rates in history.

Tell President Obama and Congressional Democrats to reject cuts to the social safety net, and any plan that doesn't ask the wealthy to pay their fair share.

Dear President Obama/ Members of Congress,

I am deeply concerned that Congress is considering budget deals which would attempt to balance the federal budget on the backs of poor and working class people, while asking essentially nothing from the wealthiest Americans and corporations.

Many Republicans are using the negotiations around the debt ceiling as an opportunity to cut the social safety net. I am outraged by their efforts to cut vital supports for middle- and lower-income Americans.

I am counting on you to stand up to lawmakers who are putting the interests of corporate lobbyists and millionaires and billionaires above efforts to craft a budget that works for most Americans. I urge you to reject any cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or student aid, and to reject any plan that doesn’t ask corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share.

Sincerely,

[your name]
