Tell the Senate: Confirm Debo Adegbile's Nomination

scroll down to sign

Seven Democrats just joined every Senate Republican to block the confirmation of Debo Adegbile — a staunch voting rights advocate — to lead the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. The move was the result of a concerted right-wing effort to smear Mr. Adegbile by distorting the truth about his involvement with the case of former Black Panther, Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Join us in demanding Senator Harry Reid call for another vote and Senators Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Mark Pryor (D-AR), John Walsh (D-MT), Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Bob Casey (D-PA), and Chris Coons (D-DE) — who opposed Adegbile's confirmation — reconsider their votes.

Here’s the letter we’ll send the Senators on your behalf. You can add a personal comment using the box provided.

Dear Senators Heitkamp, Manchin, Pryor, Walsh, Donnelly, Casey, and Coons,

Your vote not to confirm Debo Adegbile — a staunch voting rights advocate and principled civil rights attorney — to head the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice was clearly the disappointing result of a right-wing smear campaign to destroy his character.

Debo Adegbile is one of the nation's top civil rights attorneys and a leading expert on voting rights. He has defended the Voting Rights Act before the Supreme Court twice — the first time, successfully — and he was the only Black attorney to argue before the Supreme Court last term. At a time when the voting rights of Black folks, women, the elderly, students and many others are under attack, an appointment like Adegbile's would ensure that there was someone in the Justice Department who knows what's at stake and will take a principled stand to defend the rights and privileges we all cherish, including the freedom to vote.

We demand another vote to confirm Adegbile's nomination.

Sincerely,

Keith
