FAA: We Don't Want Armed Police Drones!

Police are now weaponizing drones! They're now able to arm drones with Tasers, tear gas, and rubber bullets.

The Federal Aviation Administration has the power to ban this new hyper-militarized police weapon. Let's raise our voices together and demand that FAA Chairman Michael Huerta ban weaponized police drones before they are used around the country.

Dear FAA Chairman Michael Huerta,

North Dakota just became the first state to allow their police to arm police drones with "non-lethal" weapons. Including: rubber bullets, pepper spray, tear gas, sound cannons, and Tasers. Though they claim these are non-lethal weapons, 39 people have already been killed this year by Tasers and countless others have been maimed by rubber bullets and flying tear gas canisters. If the FAA does not act immediately, other states are likely to duplicate its actions.

We are greatly concerned that armed police drones are just another step to further militarize U.S. police forces. As we've seen with military drone use in foreign combat zones, drone operators act as if they are playing a video game and become cavalier about their lethal actions. We cannot allow our already hyper-militarized and unaccountable police forces to be able to remotely use weapons like this. We can only presume that armed police drones will result in more people being killed during police operations.

I urge the FAA to take immediate action to ban all U.S. law enforcement agencies from arming drones with lethal and non-lethal weapons. The lives our citizens--and their families--depend on it.
