Principal Financial Group supports private prisons?

UPDATE [5/1/2014]: 3 major companies divested $60 million dollars from private prisons after ColorOfChange members urged them to consider the financial, moral, and political impacts of their support for private prisons. Despite the leadership of these companies, The Principal Financial Group executives continue to wrongfully claim that their hands are tied to do the right thing and also divest.

Now, more than ever, we must keep up the pressure. Principal Financial Group — a company that leverages its brand as one of the "most ethical companies in the world," committed to the well-being of the employees and communities it serves — is investing more than $105 million of client money into companies that profit from the confinement and torture of mostly Black and brown people in some of the most dangerous and abusive conditions in the country.

For months, we have given Principal Financial a chance to do the right thing and divest. Now, they need to hear from you. Please take a moment to tell The Principal to end its support for private prisons immediately.
