Community in the Courthouse - Prince George's County
On Thursday, December 19 we are inviting Prince Georgians to take an inside view of what happens in the County courthouse. In partnership with Life After Release, we are launching a new court watch program to monitor the actions of the State Attorney’s office.
WHERE: Prince George's County Circuit Court located on 14735 Main ST, Upper Marlboro MD 20772
WHEN: Thursday, December 19, 2019, from 12 pm to 3 pm
COST: Free. Lunch will be provided. Paid parking is available.
Last September, State’s Attorney Braveboy announced that her office will no longer request cash bail. Now Black families will no longer face the threat of separation, unemployment, and financial ruin thanks to the many efforts of community leaders, activists, and advocates.
Still, we have so much work to do. We must make sure the State’s Attorney keeps her promise to no longer require money bail as a condition of release. That is why we are starting a court watch program -- to keep an eye on frontline prosecutors and to ensure her office follows the new bail directive. In this court watch program, you will meet other concerned Prince Georgians, hear from legal experts and get to witness exactly what happens in the courtroom.
