Tell DA Jackie Lacey: Prosecute Ed Buck for the Deaths of Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean!
Campaign Update: Recently, DA Jackie Lacey declined to press charges against Democratic Mega-Donor Ed Buck for Timothy Dean’s death in Buck's apartment based on the ridiculous idea of insufficient evidence. Clearly, DA Lacey is not willing to go far enough to get at the truth of what happened to Gemmel and Timothy. We deserve answers.
Gemmel was found dead July 26, 2017. And while an autopsy and toxicology report has yet to be released in Timothy Dean's January 7, 2019 death, the coroner noted in Gemmel’s death that he was found naked on a mattress in the center of Buck’s living room. At the the time of Gemmel's death, Buck's apartment was littered with drug paraphernalia including 24 syringes with brown residue, five glass pipes with white residue and burn marks, a plastic straw with possible white residue, clear plastic bags with white powdery residue and a clear plastic bag with a piece of crystal-like substance.
Coroner's officials ruled Moore's death an accident, and an initial review by sheriff's deputies found nothing suspicious until his journal was published.
In Gemmel's journal he wrote, "Ed Buck is the one to thank. He gave me my first injection of chrystal [sic] meth."
The tragic and demeaning deaths of both Gemmel and Timothy has not persuaded District Attorney Lacey to prosecute Ed Buck.
It’s time for Jackie Lacey to prosecute Ed Buck for the murders of both Timothy Dean and Gemmel Moore. No other Black men should have to die before the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and District Attorney take action.
Help us give Gemmel and Timothy's deaths the attention they deserve. Sign our petition today calling on DA Jackie Lacey to immediately investigate and prosecute Ed Buck!
Here is the Petition:
We are calling you to prosecute Ed Buck for the deaths of Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean--two Black gay men who died in his West Hollywood apartment after allegedly overdosing on drugs. Ed Buck has created a system of abusing the vulnerability and poverty of Black men, many of whom have been described as being HIV positive and who were not addicted to drugs until coming into contact with him.
We call on you to investigate and prosecute Ed Buck who so clearly poses a threat to the safety of Black gay men in Los Angeles County and beyond.
Ed Buck is known to solicit young Black men to his apartment under the guise of money for drug use that is sometimes forced. Many of these men were also struggling with homelessness and needing food or money. Other men who experienced similar encounters with Buck have yet to be interviewed by the Sheriff's Department. The longer Ed Buck remains a free man, the stronger the chances of a third Black man overdosing and dying in his apartment again.
We urge you to help keep Black LGBTQ communities safe in Los Angeles County by prosecuting Ed Buck!
