Tell Congress to reject Trump's pressure campaign and say NO to the SAVE Act!
Tell Congress: Protect Voting Rights, Reject the SAVE Act
Donald Trump continues to fixate on making it harder for Black communities to vote. He even refused to sign a bipartisan housing bill that had already passed Congress, pledging to grind Congress to a halt until lawmakers pass the SAVE America Act.
Now, Speaker Mike Johnson says Republicans will try AGAIN to force the bill through when Congress returns next week by using the budget reconciliation process — a strategy that would require only a simple majority in the Senate to pass.
The stakes could not be higher. Color Of Change refuses to accept a future where politicians change the rules whenever Black communities organize, vote, and demand accountability. Lawmakers need to hear from all of us before they cast a vote — and we need to move quickly.
Here is the Petition:
For generations, attacks on voting rights have been dressed up as "election security." During Jim Crow, politicians used poll taxes, literacy tests, intimidation, and violence to keep Black people from voting. After the Voting Rights Act outlawed many of those tactics, efforts to restrict access to the ballot box did not disappear — they evolved. Voter ID laws became one of the new tools used to make voting harder while claiming to make elections more secure.
The language changes, but the target is the same: prevent Black people from voting. That is why the SAVE Act is so dangerous. The bill would effectively require Americans to produce a passport or birth certificate in order to register to vote. Twenty-one million American citizens do not have ready access to those documents. This bill would also force millions of low-income voters to navigate costly and complicated bureaucratic processes to exercise a constitutional right. We know who will pay the price.
We cannot allow that to happen.
At a moment when the Supreme Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act, states are rushing to eliminate majority-Black districts, and politicians are openly targeting Black political power, we must demand Congress expand access to the ballot box — not create new obstacles.
Congress must reject the SAVE Act and protect our freedom to vote!
