OpenAI's Sora is being used to create vicious racist videos that mock Black women and manipulate our history:

• Fake videos of Black women screaming about EBT cards (Electronic Benefit Transfer - how SNAP/food stamp benefits are distributed)
• Degrading stereotypes using exaggerated AAVE (African American Vernacular English) to mock how we speak
• Manipulation of civil rights era speeches, putting false words in the mouths of deceased leaders
• “Welfare queen” narratives spreading lies about who actually receives government assistance

These videos are getting millions of views just as SNAP benefits face massive cuts affecting 42 million Americans. The timing is not coincidental. These AI-generated lies are being used to justify real harm to real families.

Why This Matters

OpenAI claims to be building AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) "to benefit all of humanity." Instead, they've built tools that enable unlimited racist propaganda.

When fake videos can rewrite what was said at the March on Washington, our history is under attack. When AI can create endless "angry Black woman" stereotypes, our present is under attack. When technology makes it easier to spread hate than truth, our future is under attack.

Every racist video reinforces stereotypes used to cut social programs, even though white Americans make up 35% of SNAP recipients (the largest racial group). Every manipulated speech erases the true words of leaders who died for justice. Every viral racist clip pushes more Black women out of public discourse.

We, the undersigned members and allies of Color Of Change, demand that OpenAI immediately update Sora 2 and all its AI tools to prevent the creation and spread of racist content targeting Black communities.

Color Of Change is demanding Sora:

1. Build strict civil rights protections into Sora that automatically prevent racist, stereotypical, or degrading content before it’s generated.
2. Establish an independent Civil Rights Advisory Council with the authority to review harms, set standards, and audit updates.
3. Enforce zero-tolerance consequences for misuse by permanently suspending accounts that attempt to generate racist or hateful content.

To OpenAI Leadership:

You have a choice. You can be remembered as the company that protected dignity and truth, or as the one that let our history be destroyed for clicks and profit. Technology should be a tool for justice, not a weapon of oppression against the most vulnerable.

The families of these leaders are watching. The community is watching. History is watching.

Do the right thing. Protect our heroes. Preserve our history. Respect our humanity.
