Stand Against Trump's Erasure Of Black History

Slavery was that bad, and Donald Trump is actively trying to rewrite OUR history.
The White House has announced efforts to conduct a review of the Smithsonian museums and expressed frustration over their portrayal of dark parts of America's history, including slavery. This is just another example of the racist violence of erasure woven into American culture.
This is just another piece of the Trump administration’s neo-segregationist agenda designed to turn back our progress, erase our history, and halt our freedoms.
To be clear: there would be no America without slavery, and to deny that is the denial of truth. We know this administration has no interest in the truth. That’s why Color of Change will stand as a vanguard for the truth and protect and preserve our stories, our culture, and our past, no matter how ugly the truths may be.
Black history is American history; together, we must preserve and protect it against erasure. Join us in our fight to protect the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the associated museums that protect and preserve the historical integrity of this country!
Here is the Petition:
The truth is at stake. The Trump administration’s efforts to censor the Smithsonian museums and purge them of the dark truths of America’s history — namely, the 400-year legacy of slavery — must be condemned.
We have seen these efforts before; from banning books to promoting inaccurate accounts about slavery and the Civil War, these types of efforts are designed to whitewash history and erase America’s uncomfortable truths.
In what feels like a new battleground every year, Color Of Change members have made their voices heard loud and clear; Black History is U.S. history. Together we’ve fought to defend Black History, calling out textbook publishers for inaccurate portrayals, and fighting back against school and library book bans. We have been in the fight to keep Black history in our classrooms, in our libraries, and now we must continue the fight for our PUBLIC MUSEUMS.
You can’t teach American history without teaching OUR history. Whether by examining inequality under the law or celebrating Black stories in classrooms, making sure the truth is told about the history of racism in our country is an urgent fight.
I’m signing on as a supporter to pledge my commitment to defending Black history!
