Protect Black Political Power and Resist Trump’s Attacks On Our Homes and Communities
This past week U.S. Border Patrol agents in Chicago led a late-night raid on an apartment building. Federal law enforcement used helicopters to land on the roof and destroy people’s apartments and personal property. Some Black U.S. citizens were detained, children were pulled from their homes, and some were forced naked onto the streets. These officers did not even show a warrant upon entering homes and detaining people. After expanding military presence in the District of Columbia and Los Angeles, Trump is invading our homes in Chicago and moving to invade Memphis and Portland.
Let’s be clear: this is not about crime or safety. This is a dress rehearsal for authoritarian overreach — a deliberate test of the public's limits to dictatorial dominance.
Every single American should be outraged. Trump will not stop at just taking over the cities. Trump seeks to increase military presence in every community in this country. This is only the beginning of this Administration’s dark plans to strike at the heart of our nation’s democracy.

Donald Trump seeks to harm Black people and our political power at every turn of his autocratic presidency. He views our homes and communities as soft targets, exploiting nationwide disregard, animus, and racism toward communities of color. But the authoritarian overreach he commits today will inevitably expand to other places in the United States.
We will not allow Trump and the media to get away with pushing the racist narrative that our communities must be subdued by force. Every community deserves safety based on community investments and proven solutions to promote public health, not federal troops sent to terrorize our neighborhoods. I’m signing on to resist Trump’s attacks on Black political power.
Trump’s federal occupation of our cities must end — the American people say get the federal law enforcement out of our homes! We stand with advocates calling for practical solutions, social services, and opportunities to invest and bring safety and prosperity to our communities. We urge elected leaders across the country to leverage this moment of resistance into a moment of transformation: by investing heavily in restorative justice, violence interruption, living wages, and the social services that truly build safe and prosperous communities.
