No drones for LAPD
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) wants to add a drone to its already militarized police arsenal.
Right now the LAPD is proposing a plan that would allow them to operate a drone as part of a 1-year pilot program. As we’ve seen countless times before, these pilot programs are just a way for the LAPD to get their foot in the door with new surveillance technology before rapidly expanding its use. But the Los Angeles Police Commission - the civilian body that oversees the LAPD - has the power to stop it. And thanks to local groups like the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition, public outrage against LAPD’s plan is growing.
The LA Police Commission is accepting public comments until October 16th. Let’s make sure no drones are used to spy on our communities.
