content warning: sexual assault
---- UPDATE: 9/01/20 ----
The shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha police officer has brought new scrutiny to another case in Kenosha, WI. In 2018, a Black teenager named Chrystul Kizer was accused of killing Randall Volar, a known sex trafficker who repeatedly assaulted Chrystul when she was a minor. In June, with the help of the Chicago Community Bond Fund, Chrystul was freed from jail on $400,000 bail.
This young woman is still fighting her case and a potential life sentence — all because she fought to protect her own life. Tell Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley: Drop all charges against Chrystul NOW.
The Kenosha Police failed Chrystul. They sat on irrefutable evidence of her abuser's crimes for months, and DA Graveley refused to bring Volar to justice. Because of their inaction, Volar was enabled to continue abusing young women like Chrystul.
Chrystul was just 17 years old when Randall Volar drugged her and tried to sexually assault her — as he had done with other underage girls before — and Chrystul was forced to defend herself. Now, she has to defend herself from prosecution. This is an unacceptable injustice.
Chrystul is a survivor who needs our support, not death by incarceration. Add your name now to demand DA Graveley drop all charges against Chrystul.
Chrystul's case is just another example of how the Kenosha Police Department has failed to keep Black people safe. Kenosha Police had irrefutable evidence of Volar's sexual violence against young women, yet waited three months before they turned that evidence over to the district attorney. And even after DA Graveley was given the evidence, he refused to prosecute Volar and win justice for young survivors like Chrystul.
Stand with Chrystul Kizer and her family: Demand DA Graveley immediately drop all charges against survivor Chrystul.
Kenosha County District Attorney Graveley is the prosecutor in Chrystul’s case. Graveley will also decide how to prosecute the officers involved in Jacob Blake’s shooting. We must continue to demand justice for victims of police violence, negligence, and abuse. We must continue to demand justice for Jacob Blake and Chrystul Kizer.
Here is the Petition:
Dear District Attorney Micheal Graveley,
We urge you to immediately drop all charges against Chrystul Kizer. It is clear that Chrystul, a minor, acted in self-defense when Randall Volar attempted to sexually assault her. Your office even had evidence before Volar's death that he had committed similar acts of sexual violence against other minors. There's no reason to continue to traumatize Chrystul and her family. Drop all charges now and allow Chrystul to begin her journey to healing.
