I support Representative Maxine Waters
Once again, Auntie Maxine is under attack from attention-seeking white men spewing racist dogwhistles. This time, reporter Michael Tracey decided to sacrifice journalistic integrity and ethics for clicks. And to make matters worse, he then followed the long history of depicting black women as erratic and wild by calling Representative Waters, “erratic, intemperate, and unprofessional.” This latest event comes on the heels of Bill O'Reilly denigrating Representative Waters by making a racist remark about her hair, in a desperate effort to steer the conversation away from Trump's Russia connection.
We've all seen the videos, memes, and gifs of Representative Maxine Waters standing up for Black folks and leading the Congressional Opposition against Trump, his agenda, and his administration. But this isn't her first time dropping the mic. Representative Waters is the most senior Black Congresswoman who has served the state of California and the country in public office for over 40 years. She was California's foremost voice against South African apartheid, is a staunch advocate in the fight against mandatory minimums. She is a living legend who deserves the utmost respect and honor.
The sad truth is few things upset a racist more than a powerful Black woman unapologetically exposing the illegitimacy of white supremacy and the power it wields--and Representative Maxine Waters has been doing that for decades. Representative Waters' fire and fight for justice has inspired us all so much that she has become a part of the family. That's why we stand with and celebrate Auntie Maxine every day.
Will you join us in standing with Representative Maxine Waters? It's as simple as leaving a comment on this page. Color Of Change will collect these and present them to Auntie Maxine as a thank you for her tireless service for Black folks.
