Facebook has put its own profit margins over the safety and lives of Black people since its inception, and new information is critical to understanding just how thoroughly they disregard the health and safety of our communities. A newly-released study by the Tech Transparency Project shows how egregiously Facebook skirts its responsibilities to its users, profits off hate, and takes no accountability for the harms caused by its platform. This news probably doesn’t surprise you, especially because Color Of Change has been fighting Facebook for a long time. 

In light of this groundbreaking study, we are calling on Facebook to:

• Immediately end the monetization of hateful searches;
• End the auto-generate Pages feature;
• Remove all hate groups listed on its own "Dangerous Organizations" list from the platform, and commit additional resources to ensure the accurate and ongoing enforcement of keeping hate groups off Facebook; and finally,
• Mark Zuckerberg must commit to meeting directly with racial justice and civil rights leaders to take personal responsibility for Facebook’s continued monetization of hateful content.

Facebook has broken several promises over the years, but this may take the cake. While Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has buried himself in his Metaverse pet project, Facebook has fallen further into the hands of those who threaten our lives, our freedoms, and our democracy. The popular platform has billions of worldwide users, and such easy access to hate leads to real-world harms against Black people. Facebook can’t let this continue, and we need your help to hold them accountable. Our demands are simple, and Facebook must meet them with all due haste.
