Tell the AAMC and AMA to #EndMedicalRacism
Black Americans with kidney disease are less likely to be diagnosed early, more likely to go through dialysis, and are less likely to be put on the list for life-saving transplants than white people. In fact, 9 out of 15 people who die while awaiting kidney transplants are Black, in no small part due to the practice of “race-norming.”
Race-norming does little to protect Black health. Instead, it leads to worse health outcomes and higher medical bills for Black people. So we’re demanding that the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Association for American Medical Colleges (AAMC) end the practice of race-norming and work together to take concrete steps to weed out medical racism from medical schools and healthcare providers once and for all.
