Release the numbers! Tell Jeff Bezos to end Amazon's COVID-19 cover up

Black workers are saving America, and in response, Amazon is risking their lives for profit.

Before the COVID-19 crisis, Jeff Bezos was the richest man in the world with a net worth of $115 billion. Now, as his employees continue to raise the alarm about his refusal to ensure the safety of Amazon’s essential workers during an unprecedented pandemic, his net worth has spiked dramatically at $194 billion. This is not a coincidence. Jeff Bezos’ wealth depends not just on the massive level of public funding Amazon receives from the government, but on his single-minded willingness to put profit over human life, no matter how devastating the cost to our communities. Since the beginning of this crisis, we have known that no one is more likely to be put on the frontlines of the pandemic as essential workers, than Black and Latino people. Jeff Bezos doesn't care that it’s our moms, sisters, brothers, and cousins who are working in overcrowded Amazon warehouses with dirty air filters, and no way to know if visibly ill coworkers have tested positive for COVID-19 or not. He does not care that our people are more likely to have pre-existing conditions that put us at higher risk for severe outcomes of a virus that has claimed the lives of so many in this country and across the globe. He doesn’t care about the terrifying conversations we’ve had with loved ones about whether or not they can afford to stop risking their lives every day. But we care. And if the leadership of this multi-billion dollar corporation thinks they can continue to put our loved ones in harm's way while sweeping it under the rug, they have another thing coming. We demand that Jeff Bezos end Amazon’s COVID-19 cover up, and release comprehensive racial and demographic data on the impact of COVID-19 on Amazon employees since the beginning of the outbreak

    Here is the Petition:

Essential doesn’t mean expendable. Because corporations are making decisions that deny us even a basic level of safety, Black people, who have been put on the frontline of the pandemic as essential workers, are one the groups most likely to contract and die as a result of COVID-19 in the country. Amazon, in its decision to force its employees to continue to work in unsafe, life-threatening conditions over the past few months, is no exception. From dirty air filters to overcrowded warehouses, we know that Amazon and its leadership are directly responsible for putting our family members, friends, coworkers and loved ones in harm's way during the COVID-19 crisis. But until we have a clear view of the problem, we will not be able to push for the justice our community deserves. The people we love matter, and we won’t allow you to disappear them. That’s why we are demanding that you publicly commit to ending Amazon’s COVID-19 cover up and to releasing comprehensive racial and demographic data on the impact of COVID-19 on Amazon employees since the beginning of the outbreak.
