Tell Delta: Stop Manipulating the CDC
Corporate irresponsibility and the government’s abysmal response to the COVID-19 pandemic have failed Black people. Despite COVID-19 infection rates skyrocketing to the highest point since the beginning of the pandemic, Delta Airlines pushed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to shorten the isolation period for people with COVID from ten days to five. Since the release of the new guidance, COVID-19 has infected and killed Black people at disproportionate rates.
Delta’s greed puts their workers and passengers at risk. Delta’s pressure and the CDC’s subsequent guidance change are not based on science; even Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Advisor to the President, stated that the main purpose of this updated guidance is to get people back to work. Despite pushback from the Association for Flight Attendants, the airline continues to push for a shortened isolation period for its most essential and vulnerable workers while also cutting sick pay for its workers with COVID.
Our healthcare system is stretched thin–we don’t need large corporations encouraging profit-based actions. Tell Delta’s CEO to update its isolation policy, extend workers’ sick pay, and retract its request to the CDC.
Here is the Petition:
Ed Bastian,
Delta claims to be a purpose-driven brand that connects humanity, driving forward empathy and a deeper respect and care for the people on our planet. However, Delta’s request to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to shorten the isolation period for people with COVID and their choice to cut sick pay for COVID-positive workers does not reflect these values.
Reverse course: tell the CDC to follow the science when updating its COVID-19 guidelines and change your internal policies to protect your workers and passengers.
