Tell DOJ: Freeze funding for Baltimore Police Department
On August 10, 2016, the Department of Justice released an investigative report exposing that the Baltimore Police Department is raping Black women and using biased tactics to target and harm Black communities. After reviewing the DOJ report, MSNBC reporter Trymaine Lee commented that it took the DOJ 14 months "to reveal what Black folks in the city of Baltimore have known for generations.”
In addition to forcing Baltimore residents to exchange sexual acts to avoid arrest, the report also found that officers are antagonizing Black people at higher rates although illegal contraband is more likely to be found on white residents.
Last year, the Baltimore PD was given 12 million dollars in federal funding for police reform, but this report shows nothing is being implemented. Demand the head of the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, Vanita Gupta halts funding for the Baltimore Police Department until they implement critical reform to protect Black lives.

On August 10, the Department of Justice released an investigative report exposing that the Baltimore Police Department uses illegal, biased and violent tactics to uphold systemic racism and sexism that harms Black communities. I am writing to demand that you freeze funding to Baltimore’s racist and violent police department until they implement critcal reform to protect Black lives.
These findings prove that instead of building a culture of safety, the policies and practices of the Baltimore Police only incite violence in Black communities and further undermine community distrust of law enforcement. You must ensure this stops today.
