Tell Congress to investigate the price of Epipens

Epipens are a life-saving device, one that administers an injection of fast acting medication in response to anaphylactic shock, a life-threatening allergic reaction that can be triggered by anything from bee stings to food allergies. A decade ago, they cost $57. Today, that price has skyrocketed to $600 per dose. Why?

Because Mylan, the company that makes the medicine has no competition, and the government doesn’t regulate medical monopolies. Rising medical costs have long been a problem that afflict Americans from every walk of life. But for Black communities, who suffer disproportionately from health issues like asthma and allergies, the cost of Epipens can be lethal to your wallet and your health.

It’s time for the government to step in and bring prices back down, ensuring that health and well-being aren’t reserved solely for the rich. Tell Congress to investigate this greedy corporation and implement policy to ensure that life-saving medicine is affordable for all Americans.

This is the letter we'll send to members of Congress on your behalf:

    Dear Congressperson,

I am writing to ask you to support the opening of an investigation into the drug company Mylan, producer of Epipen, a life-saving device that administers an injection of fast acting medication in response to anaphylactic shock caused by life-threatening allergic reactions. Over past decade, Mylan has raised the price 400%, from $57 to over $600. This has made the medicine prohibitively expensive, even for Americans with health insurance.

The House Judiciary Committee and the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary should hold hearings on why Mylan has been allowed to raise prices to outrageous and unaffordable levels. It is unacceptable to allow one company to hold a monopoly on a product that saves millions of lives per year. Without an investigation or hearings, Mylan will be allowed to continue to do business as usual and raise prices even higher. Worse, other companies will be emboldened to take the same actions, exacerbating the problem of unaffordable medical costs. It is time for the federal government to step in and safeguard the ability of all Americans to access basic, inexpensive medicine vital to preserving their health and well-being.

    Thank you,

    [Your name]
