Recently, President Biden recommitted to his campaign promise to nominate a Black woman to the United States Supreme Court. Chuck Schumer, the US Senate Majority Leader, said that the Senate is ready to confirm a nominee with "all deliberate speed." It is critical for our communities that whatever Black woman is nominated holds our values of freedom and justice for Black people. 

President Biden's Supreme Court nominee must:

• Make landmark rulings that routinely incorporate racial equity;
• Support reforming the filibuster to pass landmark voting rights legislation;
• Commit to protecting Roe v. Wade;
• Commit to protecting affirmative action as a core tenet of socioeconomic and racial justice;
• Advocate for reproductive justice and support the reversal of certain fetal homicide laws and other laws that criminalize pregnancy outcomes;
• Stand firmly on the side of civil rights for Black people;
• Have an understanding of the economic realities Black and low-income communities face and commit to the core tenets of economic justice like a living wage, affordable housing, and the right to participate in a labor union;
• Center civil rights and uphold racial equity protections within antitrust and tech accountability laws; and
• Protect Black people from algorithms that continue to entrench bias and violate civil rights law.

The time is now to lay the foundation for a better future. Signal your support for the nomination and confirmation of a visionary and progressive Black woman to the United States Supreme Court.

President Biden,

I am urging you to fulfill your campaign promise and nominate a progressive Black woman to the United States Supreme Court. The three Supreme Court Justices nominated by Trump have quickly attacked Black communities with their decisions restricting abortion rights, voting rights, labor rights, and COVID protections. Having one less liberal Supreme Court Justice increases the threat of an even larger conservative majority on the bench. 

Your Supreme Court nominee must:

• Make landmark rulings that routinely incorporate racial equity;
• Support reforming the filibuster to pass landmark voting rights legislation;
• Commit to protecting Roe v. Wade;
• Commit to protecting affirmative action as a core tenet of socioeconomic and racial justice;
