Sahleem Tindle was murdered by a BART Officer in Oakland. We demand justice and transparency.

    A photo of Sahleem Tindle

On January 3, 2018, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Officer Joseph Mateu shot and killed a 28-year-old Black man and father of two young children, Sahleem Tindle at the West Oakland station. The Oakland Police Department and media reports immediately charged that he was armed but after viewing the footage, the family has reported that Sahleem had his back turned to Mateu, that his hands were up, and that he was unarmed.

    We must demand transparency.

False media narratives have become a familiar pattern of misinformation after the murder of Black people at the hands of law enforcement. These narratives seek to criminalize victims of police brutality.

Sahleem's mother, Yolanda Banks Reed, has called for justice. Will you join her and sign the petition demanding the release of the body cam footage?

This is what we'll send to Carlos Rojas, BART Chief of Police:

    Here is the Petition:
BART Chief of Police Carlos Rojas,

We demand that you release the footage from the body camera BART Officer Joseph Mateu was wearing when he shot Sahleem Tindle on January 3, 2018, at the West Oakland Station.
