WHAT:

We are joining with many locally based organizations in Greenville, NC to show our support for Dontae Sharpe. This evidentiary hearing may be Dontae's last hope at freedom after being wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for over 20 years. If we can to show the judge that Dontae has a whole community waiting for him on the other side of the wall, they will be more likely to release him. This is Dontae's fourth hearing and we are hopeful it will be his last.

Dontae’s case is a tragic example of the deep-rooted moral corruption of our criminal justice system where prosecutors and police can exploit racism and inequality to try and extract guilt from innocent people. There is no physical evidence tying Dontae to the crime that he is accused of, a key witness recanted their testimony, alternative suspects were not pursued, and his alibi witnesses were never interviewed. After being in a cage since the age of 19, it is time for all political actors to do the right thing by Dontae. We have a real chance to finally reunite Dontae with his loved ones and community. Let’s bring Dontae Sharpe home.
