2-year-old A.J was rushed to the hospital last week for an infection. He was initially due to get a life-saving kidney transplant surgery early October but Emory University Hospital reversed it's decision and canceled the surgery.
The reason for canceling the surgery was due to the hospital using the father Anthony Dickerson's criminal past. The surgery was supposed to happen, but the hospital administrators decided to make their own judgment and postpone the surgery until January 2018. This is another cruel example of individuals and families not only being denied medical care, but experiencing an entire unjust system that punishes returning citizens for having a criminal past. After strong, groundswell of local community support and Color of Change members like you rallying behind A.J. and his family. The hospital CEO agreed it was a mistake to not put a patient's needs first. Now the surgery will proceed.
Now that A.J. will get the care he needs and deserves. Let's all show up for him and show our support by sending well wishes. A.J. deserves a long healthy life.
