JUST IN: Congress has included an extended and expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) in the Build Back Better Act—a move that benefits more than 60 million children and offers those living paycheck to paycheck some funds to fall back on.
While a one-year extension is a step in the right direction, we must continue our fight to make the CTC permanent. To date, the Child Tax Credit has lifted 3.5 million children out of poverty and slashed the food insufficiency rate by more than 20 percent for households with children. If extended through 2025 alone, the CTC could lower the child poverty rate to 8.4% from 14.2%.
