Armed Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol as Congress prepared to formally certify president-elect Biden, engaging in a seditious insurrection. They've been enabled by a media committed to giving voice to "both sides," aided by social media platforms that refused to address election misinfo and white nationalism, egged on by far-right lawmakers, and given differential treatment by the same law enforcement agents that shower us with tear gas, batons, and rubber bullets when we peacefully protest. As the violence in D.C. continues, so, too, does violence across the country, where pro-Trump militia have been storming capitol buildings in Kansas and Georgia. This shows us what we’ve known for some time: that the pro-Trump insurrection puts us and our country in very real, tangible danger.
Our safety—our lives—depend on how we respond in moments like these. And so we will continue to steadfastly fight for our right to live, to thrive, and we will fight to protect our democracy. Make a contribution and join us in the fight for our lives.
