Just because Biden won’t be actively destroying and dismantling the lives of marginalized people doesn’t mean we won’t have to continue pushing him on the issues that matter most to our communities.
It was through our collective organizing, the calls we made, the petitions signed, the days we refused to give up on the issues that impact us the most, that we’ve gotten this far. And we didn’t just win on the national level, at least 20 local, police-related measures were on the ballot this past election. And 19 of those measures that have passed will aid in holding the police accountable and being the process of divesting from police departments and relocating that money to our communities. The new measures vary between oversight committees and budgets to funding social services and ending stop and frisk. These policies are crucial and much-needed first steps that will get us closer to reimagining safety and building a world that gives our people the tools they need to thrive.
