Cuyahoga County Jail protest

Activists on Monday protested the conditions at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Activists on Monday protested the conditions at the Cuyahoga County Jail at the Justice Center.

The Coalition to Stop the Inhumanity at the Cuyahoga County Jail protested the jail conditions and the county’s slow response to improving conditions at the jail. The U.S. Marshals in a November report detailed “inhumane” conditions inside the jail.

The group will then speak at the Criminal Justice Council’s quarterly meeting inside the justice center.

The group has protested several times, including in front of Cuyahoga County Council.

Eight inmates died in the jail in 2018 and another died in May. The FBI is conducting a civil rights investigation into the conditions at the jail and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office’s criminal probe has so far netted indictments against several corrections officers and jail officials.
