When Philando Castile was alive, he routinely paid for lunches for students who couldn’t afford it. This is because, often times, students who can’t afford the cost of lunch are humiliated in front of their peers, receiving stamps, bracelets, or even having their hot meal thrown out as a result of their lunch debt.
Too often, school administrators punish students who come from low-income families simply because they can’t afford the cost of lunch. These kinds of actions are cruel, and can traumatize students for years to come. But, we have the power to change this. We have the power to help carry on the work Philando started. So, this holiday season, we are working to eliminate school lunch for students in Minnesota.
Chip in now to help erase a Minnesota student’s lunch debt for the rest of the school year.
