The brutal arrest of a 26-year-old, Black mother Dyma Loving is difficult to forget. Shortly after Dyma called the police for help, Officer Alejandro Giraldo of Miami-Dade County violently attacked her -- he threw her against a chain-link fence and pulled her to the ground. You joined us we demanded State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle criminally charge Officer Giraldo for his brutal attack on Dyma. It was because of your help that Officer Giraldo has been charged with first-degree misdemeanor battery and third-degree felony official misconduct.
This is a massive win for Dyma and her family. Dyma has dealt with the trauma and confusion that undoubtedly ensues after being violently attacked -- her livelihood and sense of safety have been disrupted. Together, we called on State’s Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle to prioritize Dyma’s case. We refused to allow Officer Giraldo to freely roam the street without being held accountable for his actions, setting a clear precedent that we will not tolerate police violence against Black women.
