National Mama’s Bail Out Day is a coordinated effort by community organizations and advocates alike to reunite Black mothers with their families on Mother's Day.
Black women are more likely to be separated from their families pre-trial because they cannot afford the cost of bail. Of the 219,000 women incarcerated in this country, most are women of color, and 80% are mothers or primary caretakers of their children.
No mother should have to endure the pain of being separated from her family simply because she is unable to afford the cost of bail. That is why we are working with organizations across the country to stop this injustice.
Our goal is to raise the funds needed to help release as many moms of color and caretakers as possible. It is through our continued effort that we will bring attention to the staggering impact money bail and mass incarceration has on Black families.
