We're coming out of 2018 with a huge list of wins, but we can't stop there. We want to keep building towards a world that’s full of opportunity, support and love for Black people. Donate before December 31 to make sure we have the funds to start 2019 with power and momentum!
We’ve worked hard this year to create real-world change for Black people and our allies. Here’s a snapshot of our collective accomplishments - powered by supporters like YOU.
- We forced Facebook to agree to conduct a civil rights audit to make the platform safer for Black users
- We successfully lobbied Governor Andrew Cuomo to investigate New York’s exploitative bail bond industry, shining a spotlight on its damaging practices
- We ensured the College Board retained Black history in the Advanced Placement World History curriculum
- We helped free 147 Black women from jail as part of Black Mama's Bail Out
- We passed net neutrality in California, safeguarding users and setting a standard for other states to follow
- We pushed Google and Facebook to ban harmful bail bond ads from their platforms
- We got the Associated Press to set a standard that bans the use of the xenophobic term “Chain Migration” in writing about family-based migration
- We made New York the first city in the country to offer free phone calls from jail
- We stopped Disney from white-washing their Black characters, like Princess Tiana who inspired and brought joy to Black girls and children everywhere
- We pushed the Dallas District Attorney to present murder charges against Amber Guyger for killing Botham Jean
- We safeguarded Oakland children by helping get lead out of their schools
- We ensured that Jacqueline Dixon in Selma, AL wasn’t unjustly charged with murder for defending herself against an abusive husband
Color Of Change does not take money from big corporations because they do not share our values, and we cannot compromise on that. We run people-powered campaigns because that’s what we need to build the world we know is possible, in 2019 and beyond.
