CALL NOW: This DA is pursuing murder charges against a woman because she survived abuse

Jacqueline Dixon is living a nightmare. In Alabama, a young 38-year old Black woman Jacqueline Dixon was arrested and charged with murder for killing her husband Carl Omar Dixon on the morning of July 31st after an argument in which her husband attempted to attack her. Alabama is a "Stand Your Ground" state and yet she is now being punished and prosecuted for protecting and defending herself. The Selma Police Department and District Attorney Michael Jackson are well aware of Jacqueline's experience of domestic violence but DA Jackson ignored her story and still charged her.

Despite Alabama being a "Stand Your Ground" state, Black people are still punished. Survivors of domestic violence especially Black women survivors are punished and criminalized for taking steps to defend themselves. Every day survivors risk their lives to stay safe and free from abuse. Yet the system fails to protect them. District Attorney Jackson has yet to show any signs of dropping the charges. The case will soon go to a grand jury. DA Jackson has full discretion to do what he wants with the case -- including completely dismissing the charges. Jacqueline deserves freedom and a safe place for herself and her family to heal from the horrific ordeal of abuse.

District Attorney Michael Jackson has the responsibility to drop the charges against Jacqueline Dixon. Survivors deserve protection, not prosecution.
