Stop the sneak attack on net neutrality!

Getting the FCC to pass strong Net Neutrality rules this February was a major civil rights victory – a victory that this community fought tooth and nail for. But now Congress is launching a nasty sneak attack on Net Neutrality -- just two days before the FCC’s historic rules are set to go into effect.

A key House committee that determines what the FCC can and cannot spend money on has introduced a bill that would kill the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules. It would gut the rules that protect our community from discrimination by the giant Internet service providers (ISPs) — Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable

To stop this foul attack we need our Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) leaders on this subcommittee to fight back. We need to raise our voices together and call on Representatives Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Chaka Fattah (D-PA), and Barbara Lee (D-CA) to do everything possible to stop this bill.

Dear Representative Bishop, Representative Fattah, and Representative Lee,

Net neutrality has made the Internet a level playing field for all voices, allowing Black bloggers, activists, and entrepreneurs to flourish online despite being blocked out of ownership and participation in traditional media. Black communities benefit greatly from a free and open Internet, and it is imperative that it stays that way.

As the FCC's National Broadband Plan acknowledges, high-speed Internet is an essential service that all Americans need in order to perform basic tasks, from applying for a job, to doing schoolwork, finding a home, and running a business. The FFC’s Net Neutrality rules are a key civil rights protection, and their implementation must not be delayed.

At Wednesday's House Appropriations mark-up of the FY 2016 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill, anti-Net Neutrality Representatives will attempt to attach a rider blocking the implementation of these crucial rules. This attack on our right to an open Internet must be stopped.

The FCC exists to serve the public, not the corporate bottom line, and the court in Verizon v. FCC made clear that the FCC has the authority to regulate interstate communications. I urge you to do all you can to stop the latest attempt to block the implementation of the FCC’s historic Net Neutrality rules.

    Sincerely,

    [YOUR NAME]
