    Congress: Stop stalling Internet freedom

According to reports, the FCC is prepared to move forward with rules that will protect the open Internet, which has been crucial to modern day civil rights movements and fights for justice.

Phone and cable companies are fighting this tooth and nail, calling in favors from organizations and members of Congress they've supported financially for years. Sadly, some civil rights organizations and Black members of Congress are attacking net neutrality with dishonest and deceptive arguments handed to them by the telecom lobby.

Fortunately, Representatives Keith Ellison and Maxine Waters, long-time net neutrality champions, are asking their fellow members of congress to stand with President Obama and the FCC in support of strong net neutrality rules. Let’s let them know we have their back.

This is the letter we'll send to members of Congress on your behalf. Feel free to add a personal comment in the space provided.

    Dear Representative,

Net neutrality has made the Internet a level playing field for all voices, allowing Black organizers, journalists, and entrepreneurs to flourish online despite being blocked out of ownership and participation in traditional media. It is also fueling a new civil rights movement, helping us to engage in a political process that has been historically exclusive. Communities of color, women and America’s poor all benefit from a free and open Internet, and it is imperative that it stays that way.

Blocking the Federal Communications Commission and President Obama from protecting the rights of consumers assists big phone and cable companies in threatening the Internet as we know it.  We want a government that protects us from the overreach of corporations, and all entities that make it harder for individuals to have a voice in our democracy and our economy. That’s why we need you to take a stand in the fight for net neutrality.

Please join Representatives Keith Ellison and Maxine Waters in urging other members of Congress to let the FCC do it’s job and protect the open Internet.

    Sincerely,

    [Your Name]
