Senate Republican Leadership: Schedule a vote to confirm Loretta Lynch

Senate Republican Leaders are holding hostage the nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General even though enough Republican Senators to ensure her confirmation have publicly announced their support.

Loretta Lynch's nomination has been pending for nearly 6 months. Outrageously, the GOP leadership refuses to schedule a vote to confirm Lynch — who would be the first Black woman Attorney General — unless Democrats agree to concessions on the completely unrelated but no less devastating issue of women's health.

Loretta Lynch is an immensely qualified nominee who has for a total of 7 years — the past 5 years under President Obama — served as US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Many Republicans, including outspoken former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Senators Lindsay Graham(R-SC), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Jeff Flake(R-AZ), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) have called for a vote to confirm her.

Despite her excellent qualifications and failing to find any substantive objection to her confirmation, Senate Republican leaders have chosen the despicable course of using the reproductive rights of young women who have been victims of human trafficking as a bargaining chip. These games need to end. Join us to demand the Senate GOP leadership call an immediate vote to confirm Loretta Lynch.

Below is the letter we'll deliver to the Senate Republican Leadership on your behalf. Feel free to add a personal comment in the space provided.

Dear Senators Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, John Thune, John Barrasso, and Roy Blunt,

I demand you immediately call a vote to confirm Loretta Lynch as Attorney General. You took control of the Senate this year with the promise of letting the way you govern be the case to the nation as to why Republicans should win the Presidency. Black women participate in Presidential elections at the highest rate of any group. This disrespect will not be forgotten as the GOP makes its case to voters in 2016.

    Sincerely,

    [your name]
