Senate Republican Leaders are holding hostage the nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General even though enough Republican Senators to ensure her confirmation have publicly announced their support.

Loretta Lynch's nomination has been pending for nearly 6 months. Outrageously, the GOP leadership refuses to schedule a vote to confirm Lynch — who would be the first Black woman Attorney General — unless Democrats agree to concessions on the completely unrelated but no less devastating issue of women's health.

Loretta Lynch is an immensely qualified nominee who has for a total of 7 years — the past 5 years under President Obama — served as US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Many Republicans, including outspoken former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Senators Lindsay Graham(R-SC), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Jeff Flake(R-AZ), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) have called for a vote to confirm her. 

Despite her excellent qualifications and failing to find any substantive objection to her confirmation, Senate Republican leaders have chosen the despicable course of using the reproductive rights of young women who have been victims of human trafficking as a bargaining chip.
