Comedian Leslie Jones, currently starring in the new Ghostbusters film, has shed a light on the racist abuse she has been receiving on Twitter since the film came out. Ever since it was first announced that there would be an all-female remake of the 1984 original, the film had been a focal point for misogynistic trolls. An online campaign made its trailer the most disliked in YouTube history. The film has proven successful with critics and at the box office though and Jones has subsequently found herself at the forefront of more hateful online comments.
Saturday Night Live cast member Jones shared her thoughts on the abuse, and highlighted a number of the offensive messages, in a stream on tweets posted on July 18-19. She ended the messages by announcing that she won't be using Twitter in the future. "I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie."
