Written by Christopher Petrella, a researcher at the University of Berkeley, this letter makes the case that the Corrections Corporation of America should stop citing a 2013 Temple University study that was both funded by the for-profit prison industry and based on fundamentally misleading methodology. The Temple study purports to find that for-profit prison companies can be more efficient than publicly-run facilities. Petrella’s letter makes clear that such a conclusion is dubious.
